Holiday celebration dates scheduled

FUNKSTOWN -- Funkstown's Halloween Parade will be Thursday, Oct. 28, starting at 6 p.m., town officials decided Monday night.

Trick-or-treat will be Friday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

An Olde Tyme Christmas meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, upstairs at Town Hall, Councilman Richard L. Gaver said.

Town buys 'ducks'

FUNKSTOWN -- The Funkstown Town Council voted 6-0 Monday night to donate $100 to the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co.'s duck race fundraiser.

The money will be used to buy plastic ducks or chances to win the duck race, Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. said after the meeting. Any winnings the town earns will be donated to a local charity, he said.

The duck race will be Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. on Antietam Creek behind the fire station.

Day in the Park a success

FUNKSTOWN -- Funkstown's Day in the Park and re-enactment in mid-July were a success, Town Councilman John Phillips III said at Monday night's council meeting.

Organizers already are looking at ways to improve next year's event, which will be July 15 to 17, Phillips said.

Councilmen Phillips and Robert "Bobby" Rodgers Jr. asked Jeff Williams, Funkstown Legion baseball manager, if the team would get involved with next year's event, perhaps organizing a home run-hitting contest for youths and helping with a 50/50 raffle.
