ST. LOUIS - On May 1, Lexi (Salvagni) Batey, Smithsburg High School class of 1998, graduated from Maryville University with a master of science in nursing.

She had previously earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Maryville.

In June, she passed the boards and became a board certified family nurse practitioner.

While attending Maryville, Lexi worked as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Mary's and St. Luke's hospitals. She also worked as a teaching assistant in the nursing lab at Maryville and taught clinical classes for labor and delivery in Maryville's nursing program.

In 2008, Lexi was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society.

HARRISBURG, Pa. - John Moser of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Widener University School of Law.




MEQUON, Wisc. - Rachel Shirk of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Concordia University - Wisconsin.

She is a sophomore majoring in history.




ITHACA, N.Y. - The following area residents received degrees at Ithaca College's commencement ceremony in May:

Sarah Bitely, daughter of Patrick Bitely of Middletown, Md., received a bachelor of science from the college's Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Joseph Kappes, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Kappes of Mount Airy, Md., received a bachelor of arts from the college's School of Humanities and Sciences.

John Binau, son of John and Kristina Binau of Hagerstown, received a bachelor of science from the college's Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Cole Lechleiter, son of Michelle Shipe of Hagers-town, received a bachelor of science from the college's School of Humanities and Sciences.

Katie Gorham, daughter of Carolyn Gorham of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., received a bachelor of science from the college's Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Jade Dunhour of Greencastle, Pa., graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree.

Rachel A. Bartee of Mount Airy, Md., a junior who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael D. Bartee. She is majoring in human development.

S. Sophia Braunstein of Myersville, Md., a sophomore who is the daughter of Ms. Lori L. Linthicum. She is majoring in economics, political science.

Christopher B. Brown of Waynesboro, Pa., a junior who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth M. Brown. He is majoring in history.

Stephan A. Jordan of Frederick, Md., a junior who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell E. White. He is majoring in political science with a minor in drama.

Laura B. Mire of Frederick, a senior who is the daughter of Mrs. Catherine A. Mire and Dr. Gary M. Mire. She is majoring in business management.

Mariah J. Perkins of Frederick, a sophomore who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian M. Perkins.

Maria N. Queen of Hagerstown, a junior who is the daughter of Roy W. Queen. She is majoring in humanities.




GRANTHAM, Pa. - The following area students were named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Messiah College:

Derek Smith of Hagerstown, a sophomore majoring in engineering

Josalyn Smith of Hagerstown, a sophomore majoring in nursing.




Keri-Jon Faulkner of Hagerstown has been elected president of the Pi Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Phi Theta Kappa membership is based on academic achievement, and members are also provided opportunities for growth and development in scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.

Faulkner is the daughter of Taffy Clark of Myersville, Md., and is married to Timothy Faulkner.

She is majoring in English at Hagerstown Community College and is planning to transfer to Hood College.




Glory Sterling of Hagerstown has been elected public relations officer of the Pi Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Sterling is the daughter of Thomas and Joyce Cook of Mercersburg, Pa., and is married to Tyree Sterling.

She is majoring in education at Hagerstown Community College and is planning to transfer to Shippensburg University.




COLCHESTER, VT. - The following area residents were named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Saint Michael's College:

Drennan Hicks, son of Clyde and Geraldine Hicks of Frederick, Md., a senior computer science major, who graduated from Frederick High School.

Anne McNeil, daughter of Marie Morrison of Mount Airy, Md., a senior biology major, who graduated from Saint John's Catholic Prep in Frederick.
