Suns overpowered by Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Brady Shoemaker went 4-for-5 with six RBIs, hitting two of Kannapolis' four home runs, in the Intimidators' 14-9 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday night.

Tyler Saladino and Nicholas Ciolli added a home run and three RBIs each for the Intimidators, who outhit the Suns 16-9.

Kannapolis scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead, and also rallied for four in the eighth to extend its advantage to 14-9.

Rick Hague and Adrian Sanchez each had two hits for Hagerstown. Sanchez had three RBIs, while Hague, Brett Newsome, Stephen King, Sandy Leon and Eury Perez each drove in one run.


Perez scored three runs.

A four-run fourth gave the Suns a 5-3 lead.

But the Intimidators rallied for 11 runs over the next four innings.

Suns starter Evan Bronson (1-2), the first of four Hagerstown pitchers, took the loss, allowing six runs (all earned) on nine hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five.

Kannapolis reliever Zach Piccola (2-4) got the win, allowing one run, one hit and three walks in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out three.

The two teams, who were rained out Friday, will play a doubleheader today, beginning at 2:05 p.m. The five-game series concludes Tuesday.
