Roland E. "Bill" McIntire, 65, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at his home.

Born July 15, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John F. McIntire Sr. and Evelyn G. (Zimmerman) McIntire.

He was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School in 1963.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam and attaining the rank of sergeant.

He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc. of Hagerstown for 42 years.

He was a member of the UAW Local 171, BPOE Elks Club 378 of Hagerstown, American Legion Joseph C. Herbert Post 222 of Clear Spring, AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown and Last Man's Club Post 222, Clear Spring.


He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed playing softball.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Edith L. "Edie" McIntire, whom he married Dec. 10, 1983; sons, William B. McIntire of Hagerstown and Jonathan C. McIntire of Waynesboro; brother, Charles McIntire of Hagerstown; sisters, Beatrice Bragrunier of Florida, Linda Starlings of Williamsport and Shirly Gordon of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Morgan Blair and Taylor Lee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Zimmerman and John McItire Jr.; and sister, Clara Carter.

Services will be Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Valley Grace Brethren Church, Williamsport, Md., with Pastor Dan Pritchett officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring. Doors will open at noon for the convenience of the family.
