Clevelandtown School alumni to hold reunion

The Clevelandtown School alumni will hold its 22nd reunion dinner at Boonsboro American Legion on Thursday, Aug. 12, beginning at 5 p.m.

The building that housed the Clevelandtown School still sits on Clevelandtown Road, a one lane road running from Alternate U.S. 40 to Reno Monument Road east of Boonsboro.

Sharpsburg Lions news

The Sharpsburg Lions will conclude an active summer with a regular meeting in the Den in St. Paul's Episcopal Church parish Hall Aug. 19.

September will begin with a visit from new District Gov. Richard "Dick" Liebno. During Sharpsburg Heritage Day, Saturday, Sept. 18, the Lions will serve pit beef.

Gardening event planned

The Washington County Rural Heritage Museum and Master Gardeners will host a Second Sunday in the Garden event Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center.

Foods from the garden will include all heirloom variety tomatoes, melons, squashes and herbs.

Activities for the children will be making an 1800s replica of a garden water wick from clay pots and carded wool.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

Harp ensemble to perform

Benevola United Methodist Church, at 19925 Benevola Church Road in Boonsboro, will host the Tri-State Harp Ensemble for a free concert Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m.

The ensemble, directed by Sally Lay of Smithsburg, consists of more than a dozen harpists. The group will feature a variety of classical music, hymns and folk songs using harp, voice and flute. The church and its sanctuary are handicapped accessible. Call 301-791-3576 for more information.

The Board of the Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville will meet Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Keedysville.

Red Cross offers infant/child CPR course

The Washington County Red Cross, at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown, will hold a CRP/AED Child and Infant and First Aid Certification Course on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The course includes manual, skill cards and certification card. The purpose of the course is to train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children and infants.

This training is required by all daycare providers. Registration is required. Call 301-739-0717 to reserve a seat.
