Tribute dance



A tribute dance in honor of David "Crocket" Gaines, former member of the band OTB, will be Saturday, starting at 9 p.m. at the VFW at 36 E. Washington St. in Hagerstown.

Second Christian Church news



Second Christian Church, at 65 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, will host its annual family and friends picnic Sunday at noon at Wheaton Park.

From Aug. 9 to 13, the church will hold its Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 each night. The theme this year will be an "African Safari."

On Sunday, Aug. 22, the church will hold its Women's Day program titled "100 Women in White" at the 3:30 p.m. service. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Diana Ferguson from Community Baptist Church in Kearneysville, W.Va.

Dinner will follow the service.

Health fair



The seventh annual Walnut Street Community Health Center Health Fair will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Fitness retreat



Linda Brooks will lead a fitness retreat at The Woods Resort in Hedgesville, W.Va., Sept. 16 and 17.

The retreat includes a two-night stay, spa treatment, aerobic class, educational speakers and beauty consultants. Participants will also receive incentives, snacks and beverages.

The retreat will include hiking, swimming, cardio exercise, strength training, volleyball, softball, racquetball, fishing and tennis at the retreat center.

Candidates forum set for Aug. 26



The League of Women Voters will hold a candidates forum for county commissioners candidates Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown.

It will be held in the lower level of the church. Admission is free.

Red Cross training



The Washington County Red Cross, at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown, will hold a CRP/AED Child and Infant and First Aid Certification Course Saturday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The course includes manual, skill cards and certification cards. The purpose of the course is to train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations, and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children and infants.

The training is required by all day-care providers. Registration is required. Call 301-739-0717 to reserve a seat.
