Mail Call

August 05, 2010

"I have a problem with Mail Call. I'd like to know how come most people can only get a tiny little article in, and other people have - go on and on and on and on with long, drawn-out things. And supposedly you time this, and if these people are - they must be speed talkers to get the amount in that they're getting in. There's just something fishy about Mail Call."

- Williamsport

"I would like for someone to explain to me why Route 40 going out of Hagerstown is a 35 mile (per hour) speed limit. What is that, a speed trap for city police? That's ridiculous - 35 mph going out of Hagerstown by the old Richardson's Restaurant. Let's get with it."

- Hagerstown

"This is for the Hagerstown caller that wants houses burned down on West Washington Street and Broadfording Church Road. What about all the roads in between? You can find a house like that on just about any road. The people around them are the reason they keep their property like that. They still have taxes going up."

"When I read the comment from the Hagerstown caller that said Fox News started a bogus story about that lady, I wanted to say, for Pete's sake, the woman was fired before Fox even broke the story on the air. But then again, I thought, what's the use? These kind of people want to live in their own little world, where facts and truth don't live. So I just thought maybe I would keep quiet."

- Shepherdstown, W.Va.

"So the feds had to get involved in the Arizona situation. Well, why don't they just abolish all the state rights, and just abolish all the states and the feds just take everything over? President Obama promised to unify this country. He has done more to split this country apart than any other president in recent times. He does not care one iota about those ... pure politics. Anybody going into a foreign country is subject to a shakedown. All you need is the proper paperwork."

- Hagerstown

"I run quite early in the morning, and here lately I've noticed at two of the high school athletic fields and Halfway Park that the watering systems are on. While I know the reason for this economically, is this reason very wise? Especially when those fields will be torn up by October. Also could someone please look into all the signs at the corner of Bower Avenue and Virginia Avenue? It makes it rather difficult pulling out."

- Williamsport

"I'm calling in reference to the upcoming expiration of the Bush tax cuts, this coming January of '11. People don't realize it, but when the tax cuts expire our taxes are going to go up. ... Also, the marriage penalty ... will come back, which will penalize people for being married. So it'll be cheaper to stay single. I urge all the people to contact your local congressperson and voice your disapproval with this cut."

- Hagerstown

"This is a Mail Call concerning about the alternative school that's going to be built in front of the vo-tech center. I'm a little upset about it. I've been coaching for 15 years and just finished up, and I deal with a lot of kids, and I'm concerned about how big it is ... and what we do need to do as far as our adults, our parents and teachers ... back on track."

- Hagerstown

"Everybody is wondering where the stink bugs have gone. They are in the cornfield. We counted 12 on one stalk."

- Sharpsburg

"This message is in regards to the one that wrote in from Charles Town, W.Va., saying if I was getting $300 a week, I wouldn't look for a job, either. Well, to you and other people that are putting people down that are on unemployment: I happen to be 58 years old. I'm out of work because my job went bankrupt. My unemployment is $192. Anyway, you live on $192 a week, see how you feel. Have a good day."

- Chambersburg, Pa.

"I just wanted to call in about the horrible things on the TV that I see about these animals. People just need to please have their pets spayed and neutered, have their cats done. There's too many animals out here being hurt, and nobody wants to donate money for this cause. These animals didn't ask to be brought into this world, but these people that's breeding, breeding these - these people that are having these kittens need to stop. They need to have these cats fixed."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know why the Smithsburg band didn't participate in the Smithsburg Pride Days Parade back in the middle of July. That's all."

- Leitersburg

"I think we're getting off on the wrong track about the illegal immigrants being in this country, in this deal with Arizona. The big question I have in my mind is, what are they doing here? Do they belong here? Of course they don't, if they're illegal. And what about the people from other countries that have been waiting, legally, to get into this country? ... All the politicians are using this to their advantage, but the question is, why are they here illegally? There's a legal way for them to come in the country, and we should hold to that, not what President Obama wants."
