Citizens Police Academy deadline Tuesday

The Hagerstown's Police Department is holding a Citizens Police Academy from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 17 to Nov. 2 at the Hagerstown Police Department, 50 N. Burhans Blvd.

The academy is open anyone who works or plays in Hagerstown and Washington County. The program is free.

Participants in the program will be given further information about the Special Response Team; gangs; volunteer opportunities with the Hagerstown Police Department including Fire Police, Citizens on Patrol and Victim Advocates; criminal and crime scene investigations; explosives and weapons of mass destruction; firearms; police and the Fourth Amendment; Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) and traffic enforcement to provide citizens with further understanding and information at the Hagerstown's Police Department. Individuals will also be able to meet with the Art Smith, chief of the Hagerstown Police Department,.

Applications can be found online at http://www.hagerstownmd.org. Deadline to apply is Tuesday, Aug. 10. Participants are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
