Mercersburg Mini-Relay for Life a success

To the editor:

I just wanted to take some time to thank all of the folks responsible for making the Mercersburg Mini-Relay for Life a success this year. Being the second year this event has taken place, it is growing rapidly, and gaining even more community support. Thanks to the students, faculty, staff, administration, and school board of the Tuscarora School District, this event went very well. For a student-led event they did a wonderful job and received lots of positive feedback from the community.

Thanks to their efforts, and all the support in Mercersburg, we were able to reach our goal, and continue the fight against this horrible disease. The Jim Houck Memorial Bike Ride and Pancake Breakfast was a great success, and we know Jim would have been proud to see everyone come out and enjoy a nice ride around the area. I would like to thank the James Buchanan Athletic Boosters for all their efforts and assistance with these events.

Despite a few problems, we had three wonderful events, run by a wonderful committee of students who want to make a difference in our community. As I was very happy with the efforts of all, and the wonderful achievement of this year's committee, it saddened me to see that more of our local media were not present, and tried to focus on the negatives as opposed to the positive aspects of the event. I hope that for years to come we can change this.

I would like to especially thank the committees for making these events wonderful. It makes me very happy to see this event carry on, and I know it will continue to grow for years to come.

All mothers-to-be have a choice

To the editor:

I would like to comment on the abortion pictures being shown by protesters on the street recently.

If someone is offended by them, then they can choose not to look at them.

These pictures are reality. This is what the mother of these innocent babies chose to do to their offspring.

Yes, I agree the mother has a choice. She made a choice when she engages in sexual relations. This is what sex is for: reproduction.
