I have just returned from a trip to sultry Savannah, and was greeted with historic high heat indexes during the visit. So nice to come home to more temperate Maryland.

Fahrney-Keedy Home plans summer festival

Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village will host its sixth annual Summer Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The home is on Md. 66 in Boonsboro.

The event will include children's games, water park, petting zoo, classic car cruise-in, arts and crafts vendors, magician, face painting, barrel train rides and a bake sale.

Summer reading club winding down

Summer reading is wrapping up at the library.

Boonsboro Free Library's Summer Reading Club will culminate with a party Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 3:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served.

Also, plan to participate in Summer Reader Night with the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium on Friday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. Those who complete the summer reading program by game day get in free.

Class of 1970 planning reunion

The Boonsboro High School class of 1970 is making plans for its 40th reunion. The next meeting will be at Fratelli's restaurant Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m.

Stress and weight management class

Washington County Health Department is offering new fall classes for EBT: a solution for stress and weight.

The program is designed to help individuals struggling with weight issues and focuses on the root of the obesity problem: stress.

Classes will be held at Valley Grace Brethren Church on Thursday evenings starting this month and in Boonsboro on Tuesday evenings starting in September.
