Police seize $4,500 worth of heroin in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --Police seized $4,500 worth of heroin Monday after investigating a report of possible drug activity and a suspicious person at a Martinsburg motel, West Virginia State Police Sgt. T.C. Kearns announced.

Thomas Powell Dove Jr., 31, of P.O. Box 1204, Martinsburg, was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, fleeing on foot from an officer and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana and Alprazolam), according to court records and a news release from Kearns.

About 1 p.m. on Monday, State Police Cpl. M.A. Cole responded to the Economy Inn to investigate reported illicit activity and encountered Dove, who allegedly fled on foot for about 200 yards before the officer captured him behind a residence along Hedrick Avenue, according to the news release.

While running, Dove allegedly threw a large bag of heroin to the ground that weighed about 23 grams, according to the news release. He was later found to have $500 in cash, the news release said.

A search of the suspect's motel room led to the discovery of seven more grams of heroin, marijuana and Alprazolam pills, according to the news release.
