  • Younger/Benny's of Hagerstown won the 2010 USSSA men's softball Maryland state championship in Glen Burnie over the weekend, topping a field of 54 teams and defeating Team Grizzly of Westminster in the championship game. Zach Swisher was named tournament MVP and Frankie Linton, Pete Shupp, Mike Barnes, Jon Bishop and K.C. Hutzell were named to the all-tournament team. Hole-in-one

Jeff Flory recorded his second hole-in-one at Beaver Creek Country Club. He aced the 130-yard eighth hole with a 9-iron. His shot was witnessed by Larry Lowman, Corey Sholter and Wayne McCall.

Suns school supplies drive

The Hagerstown Suns are partnering with Children in Need, Inc. to make sure Washington County Public Schools students have supplies for another school year.

Any fan who donates an item to the Suns' first-ever school supply drive during August will be rewarded with a free general admission ticket to a Suns game of their choosing, as well as a coupon for 50 percent off on merchandise at the Suns' team store.

Suns fans can bring their school supply donations to the Municipal Stadium ticket office, where each donor will be able to choose from a list of August Suns games in order to claim their free ticket. All donations to the school supply drive must be made at least one day in advance of the game for which the fan is seeking to receive a free ticket.

Items suggested by Children in Need for donation include backpacks, three-ring notebooks, reams of paper and packages of pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers and/or highlighters.

WV Shockers softball tryouts

The WV Shockers fastpitch softball organization will hold tryouts for its five age groups on Aug. 21 at Musselman High School in Inwood, W.Va.
