GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Mr. Loren R. Myers, 73, of 358 Teaberry Drive, Greencastle, Pa., lost his heroic 25-year battle with Parkinson's disease at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehab Center, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 27, 1937, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Russell and Mildred (Rock) Myers. He spent his early life in the Welsh Run and Mercersburg areas.

Mr. Myers graduated with the 1954 class of Lemasters High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 at Fort Sill, Okla.

He and his wife, Mary Ann (Sellers) Myers, were married Oct. 26, 1962, in Greencastle. They resided on Wayburn Street, Greencastle, from 1973 to 2007, prior to moving to their current residence.


In his early years, Mr. Myers worked on the family farm. From 1960 to 1967, he was employed in the shipping department of Corning Glass, Greencastle, worked part time for many years at W.R. Sellers Livestock and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk for 15 years in Chambersburg and 15 years in Hagerstown, Md., for a total of 30 years of service before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.

He was also a member of Greencastle Sportsman Club and the NRA.

He enjoyed hunting, football, basketball, soccer and serving as a baseball official for the PIAA for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed reading Zane Grey novels, western and Native American history, local Civil War history, following politics, current events and time spent with his family.

Mr. Myers is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kelly A. Citara and her husband, John, Newtown, Pa., and Tracy N. Bartlett and her husband, John, Greencastle; four grandchildren, Kristin and Olivia Citara, and Caleb and Rachel Bartlett; two sisters, Helen Hoffeditz, Mercersburg, Pa., and Thelma Stahl, St. Thomas, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Floyd E. Myers and Pastor Paul Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
