Designs sought for street sculpture show

Another flight of street sculptures is coming to town. A flock of 35 to 45 hot-air balloon sculptures will be set out on Hagerstown streets in April 2011.

The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Foundation invites artists to design the balloons for the street sculpture program, called Take Flight II. The program supports the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts.

The undecorated, pear-shaped balloons will be formed from 3/16-inch ABS plastic. Each will be three-dimensional -- 36 inches in diameter and 43 inches tall. This is the portion of the sculptures to be decorated by artists. The overall sculpture height will be about 6 feet.

Balloons may be painted or decorated with other media. All media must be weatherproof and must hold up under touching.

Artists must submit their design proposal by Sept. 30.
