GREENSBURG, Pa. - Mary Violet Charlton, 86, of 551 Hamel Ave., Greensburg, and formerly of Williamsport, Md., died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.

Born Nov. 7, 1923, in Terra Alta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Alice Riley Hartman.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Long, and her second husband, Albert Charlton.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown. She was previously an active member of the McCauley Sunday school class and the Senior Friday Club.

She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies in Greensburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary L. Daley of Greensburg; one son, James R. Long Sr. of Williamsport; two sisters, Josephine Rounds of Bloomington, Md., and Barbara Friend of Deer Park, Md.; two brothers, Donald Hartman of Hagerstown and William Hartman of Missouri; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladine Smith; and one granddaughter, Angela.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
