WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Andrew Yacyk said it "was a matter of going out and doing the right things."

On Friday, Yacyk bombed three home runs and drove in eight runs to lead the Hagerstown PONY League 14 All-Stars to a 14-8 victory over Bergen Beach (N.Y.) in the opener of the East Zone Tournament.

Hagerstown returns to action at 2 p.m. today in the double- elimination tourney against the survivor of Friday's late game between Woonsocket (R.I.) and Chesterfield (Va.).

"It was a solid 15-hit attack and the defense played well," said manager Mark Koontz.

Bergen Beach took a 2-0 lead against Hagerstown's Tyler Walling before Ryan Byard knotted the game with a two-run homer, one of six Hagerstown hit in the game.

Hagerstown took an 8-2 lead with six runs in the third as Yacyk ripped a three-run homer, followed by a solo shot from Dylan Stouffer.

Bergen Beach touched Walling for five runs in the third to close the gap to 8-7 before Koontz brought in Johnny Britton in relief.

Yacyk belted a home run in the sixth and a two-run shot in the seventh and also drove in two runs with another base hit.

"Britton did a great job in relief and gave up only a home run in the last inning," said Koontz.

Austin Stone had four hits, including a home run, and Byard had three hits for Hagerstown.
