Powell to give talk on humanism Sunday

Allan Powell will discuss humanism Sunday at 10:45 a.m. in the meeting hall of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown at 13245 Cearfoss Pike.

The program is free and open to the public.

Powell taught philosophy and sociology for more than 45 years at the University of Maryland, Shepherd University, Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and Hagerstown Community College, where he is professor emeritus.

He is on the National Advisory Board of Americans for Religious Liberty and has served on the National Advisory Board of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Powell has published six books and numerous articles about local history during the French and Indian War and is a contributing columnist for The Herald-Mail.
