SHHS alumni

South Hagerstown High School will celebrate its 55th birthday in 2011. A meeting of the SHHS Alumni Association will be Thursday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. in the SHHS Media Center.

All classes are requested to send a representative to discuss the milestone celebration to be held in 2011. Input is needed from all Rebel alumni classes in order for this to be a success.

Comedy tour Aug. 6 to benefit Relay for Life

On Friday, Aug. 6, Beadleone Entertainment will host the Make Me Laugh Comedy Tour at Next Dimensions on Old National Pike in Hagerstown.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 9. There will be an after-party featuring DJ Sinbad.

Tickets cost $20 and are available by calling 240-367-5052. Remember that 25 percent of the proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.

Baby-sitter training

The American Red Cross is offering baby-sitter training at its Conrad Court location Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The class costs $45 and financial aid is available.

The classes are open to those ages 11 to 15.

The classes offer information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care to children in the absence of a parent or legal guardian. Participants gain skills in leadership and professionalism, and learn basic care safety, safe play and first aid.

Valley Art Association

A reception for local artist Tamara Hoffman will be held Sunday, Sept. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mansion House Art Gallery in Hagerstown City Park. Her artwork will be on display in the North Gallery through September.

Pet event at mall cinemas

If you are interested in adopting a new pet and taking in a movie in the same day, then visit Regal Cinemas Valley Mall Stadium 16 Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The theater will host the Humane Society of Washington County for a day of fun and furry friends, which celebrates the release of the movie "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore."

The movie, which is a follow up to 2001's "Cats & Dogs," follows Kitty Galore, a hairless Sphynx cat, who is not only fed up with dogs but her fellow cat friends as well. She devises a plan to take over the world. Watch as cats and dogs join forces to stop her.

The event also will feature adoptable pets from the Humane Society.

Donations of pet-friendly items, such as food, toys and blankets will be accepted. Anyone making a donation to the Humane Society will receive a Revenge of Kitty Galore mini movie poster or face mask.
