HANCOCK - Doris Buddecke Hammann, 94, previously of Silver Spring, Md., and more recently of Hancock, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Autumn Assisted Living, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Sept. 3, 1915, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian Plitt Buddecke, and widow of Charles "Francis" Hammann, who died Jan. 29, 1995.

She was a 1931 graduate of Silver Spring High School and a 1933 graduate of Strayer Business College.

She was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church and the Hancock Lioness Club. She and her husband were instrumental in founding the Lions Club Food Bank in Hancock, she was a volunteer for the Lions Club Blood Mobile and was active in Canal Apple Days.

She is survived by two sons, Paul F. Hammann of Hancock, and Arnold E. Hammann and wife, Lynne, of Hagerstown; also surviving are granddaughters, Amanda Hammann McDonald and husband, Ryan, of Myersville, Md., and Lauren K. Hammann of Middle River, Md.; also one great-grandson, Aiden E. McDonald; several nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Buddecke Elgin.


Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Duane Jensen will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Garden, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
