Mail Call

July 29, 2010

"For the lady that was calling from Boonsboro: To stop the unwanted calls into her home, the number is 1-888-382-1222. It takes about 30, 31 days for this to go into action, but be sure to call from the phone that you want this stopped on."

- Boonsboro

"This is in regards to the article of 'City going green.' It's amazing that in a time when the city has no money for anything, employees are being furloughed and possibly being laid off the following year, that they find money for expensive toys. I'd like to see what 5 pounds of paperwork actually looks like, weighed out on a scale, since ... our council member seems to say that they have 5 pounds of unnecessary mail in their mailbox. It would seem more cost efficient to get rid of the unnecessary mail and recycle it."

- Hagerstown

"Have you seen President Obama lately on the news? He doesn't have a Teletex to read anymore, and he's slipping in the polls, and when he's not in front of the public, he'll go 'Well, you can see,' and he'll go 'Uh, uh.' That's all."

"Our great leader President Obama now puts us more in debt, with the unemployment bill. If I was getting $300 a week, I wouldn't look for a job either."

- Charles Town, W.Va.

"I'm calling concerning the caller that made a comment about City Park. I was the original writer of that letter, and I did not state that there were gangs at the park. On the day in question, there were a bunch of rowdy teenagers using foul language. And also, in her comment about the plants and flowers and stuff being in the lake, that day there were not flowers or plants. It was dirt and debris. So I think she needs to re-read my letter and see what exactly I did write. Have a great day."

"This is on medical assistance. This is to the lady that had the piece in Mail Call about her 64-year-old husband, laid off, out of work, no insurance, and got medical assistance. Ma'am, I'm in the same boat that you are in. Could you put in the paper where you go to try to get some medical assistance? Because I need it bad. My insurance is done, and I just need some help, too. I'd appreciate if you'd put in and see about getting some medical assistance. I'd appreciate it very much."

- Hagerstown

"This is in response to the person in Hagerstown that called about needing a hero; someone who fits the bill, before too much damage is done. Where have you been? The past two years, if not more, have been in complete shambles. At this point, I don't think there's too much damage left."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"I think it's pretty nice that they highlight a lot of these Little League teams and Little League players, whether they're winning or losing, but the kids get a chance, get their names in the paper and their pictures and stuff like that. I think that's pretty cool. I think it is kind of unfair, though, it seems like the same kids get their pictures in all the papers. I noticed a couple of times that some of the same faces are in the paper repeatedly. I mean, there's more than just one or two players on all these teams, and winning or losing, the same two players or three players are getting their pictures in the paper."

- Hagerstown

"I'm a little curious about something. I was wondering, if someone got a poll started, how many people that thought before the election was over that the fellow in the Oval Office could walk on water. And now that he can't even tread water, would they change their votes if given a second chance."

- Spring Mills, W.Va.

"Everyone's always calling in saying that the Republicans just say no to everything the Democrats bring up in Congress. Well, the Republicans tried to bring up something, and the Democrats said no. The Republicans wanted to try to stop the federal government from bringing their lawsuit against Arizona. But no, the Democrats said no, we're not going to stop them, we're going to let them do whatever they want - spend our tax dollars foolishly. The Arizona law is a good law and the federal government ... Arizona has to do the job for the federal government."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the junk mail that all the credit card companies send out. When I receive any kind of junk mail, they usually include a self-addressed stamped return envelope. I stuff all the paperwork into the return envelope and mail it. This not only prevents my garbage from piling up, but also generates revenue for the U.S. Postal Service, who could use that additional revenue, with everyone using e-mail these days."

- Maugansville

"I agree with the person who said 'Jan Brewer for president in 2012.' She's the only one I know of that has guts enough to try to right a wrong."

- Hagerstown
