July 28, 2010

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --A 19-year-old man was taken to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center on Wednesday after wrecking the Dodge truck he was driving on Interstate 81 south of Martinsburg, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

The man's name was not released by the sheriff's department.

Reported at 11:40 a.m., the accident forced officials to shut down one of the southbound lanes of the highway, according to a Berkeley County Central Dispatch supervisor.

While traveling south on I-81, the driver appeared to lose control of the 1985 Dodge pickup he was driving and ran off the highway onto the shoulder, according to a news release from Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy T.A. Sherman. The truck then struck the bottom of a drainage ditch and flipped onto its roof, Sherman said in the release.

The man was cut from the vehicle by personnel with Berkeley County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management by 11:55 p.m., according to police and the emergency dispatch supervisor.
