Curtis Calvert "Tut" Markle, 100, of Glengary, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Heartland Nursing Home in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 17, 1910, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Hunter E. and Nellie Grey Gano Markle.

He managed L.F. Wilson Orchard for 28 years. He was the oldest surviving member of his family.

He is survived by one daughter, the Rev. Dottie Dunham of Glengary; six grandchildren, Lora Ann Davis of Bunker Hill, Bobby Shively of Port Heron, Mich., John Shively of Bremerton, Wash., Jim Shively of Lynchburg, Va., Rhonda Parkinson and her husband, Wayne, of Clear Lake, S.D., and Beth Feagans and husband, Bruce, of Inwood; 11 great-grandchildren, James Lee Kees III, Billy, Stephanie, Stephen, Tara and Summer Shively, James Shively Jr., Levi and Colton Parkinson, and Allen and Allison Feagans; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Guy and Teffanie Parkinson; one brother, Gerald W. Markle and his wife, Mary, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; daughter-in-law, Frances Markle of Bunker Hill; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Markle of Bunker Hill, Dena Markle of Great Falls, Va., Nan Markle of Covington, Ky., Elva Markle of Arlington, Va., and Margaret Markle of Loveland, Ohio; and a close friend, Donna Hutzler.


He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Robert Markle; one daughter, Frances Ann Grey Markle; one grandson, Hunter Robert Markle; one stepgrandson, Robert Silver Dunham; 10 brothers, Wayne, Lyle, Olney, Kenneth, Gilmer, Roy, Gail, Reno, Eldred and Alton Markle; one sister, Faye Hardee; and a son-in-law, Bobby Dunham.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 30, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood with the Rev. Joseph D. Eversole officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his former wife, Irene Markle Davis, in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery in Gerrardstown.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
