July 27, 2010

As local produce comes into season, many people are looking for ways to preserve fruits and vegetables.

The Washington County Agricultural Marketing Office, in partnership with the University of Maryland Extension-Washington County, will present a class focusing on the methods and best practices for preserving local bounty.

The "Yes I CAN!" class is Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center's multi-purpose building, off Sharpsburg Pike.

The class includes a review of home-canning equipment, processing methods, ingredient preparation and food- safety practices.

Even if you have been canning for years, this will be a refresher class to keep your family safe and well supplied with home-canned fruits and vegetables in the winter months.
