Mail Call

July 27, 2010

"My definition of gun control: Being able to hit what you are aiming at 99 percent of the time."

- Hagerstown

"To the Hagerstown caller who says that Limbaugh lies: Can he tell me one lie? This is a typical tactic of the left; call them a racist or say they are lying, without any documentation. Well, the American people have caught onto this scam and will show it in November. Again, can you tell me one lie?"

- Hagerstown

"I just don't understand, President Obama is extending unemployment once again. You can't tell me these people drawing benefits are even looking for a job. I know firsthand some in my area are really playing the system. ... Come on, Maryland, do your job, check their contacts. Most of these young kids drawing play video games all day and run the roads all night. Cut their benefits so they have to get a job and a regular routine every day. There are retail jobs available that pay as much as Obama is giving them. Make them work."

- Washington County

"Here's my question: Every day you get in your car, you have to buckle up or you get a fine. You put your kids in car seats, they have to buckle up. But in the same sense, you take your kids to the bus stop and get on a school bus, and they don't buckle up. There's no seat belts in the school buses for their safety. Don't you think that's a little hypocritical, or is it DMV? Who made that choice?"

- Hagerstown

"Look, I'm a Republican, and I don't like President Obama, but you can't blame Obama for not securing our borders because Bush never did anything about it, Clinton never did anything about it and Bush before that never did anything about it. So you just can't blame him."

- Williamsport

"Beware of those with the gigantic campaign signs. They are the ones that have too much money to understand what the citizens of Washington County want."

- Washington County

"I am responding to the person from Sharpsburg who made the comment about the Republicans not voting for the extension of unemployment benefits. Do you not see what it will do to the deficit to pass something of this magnitude without paying for it now? There were ways to pay for it without adding to the burden on our children and grandchildren, but the Democrats said no. ... If I were you, I would think twice ... unless you want to wake up and find that you no longer have what you used to have, and that is called freedom, and much more."

- Shippensburg, Pa.

"I would like to thank the customer at Martin's who turned in my billfold. I didn't have much in it, but it meant a lot to get all my papers back. So thank you very much, and I will pass on the good deed."

- Hagerstown

"I think the City of Hagerstown should privatize or sign contracts out on the Washington County wastewater collection. ... I think they ought to shop it out to other companies to run it."

- Hagerstown

"The problem with the callers from Hagerstown and Washington County is they cannot handle the truth that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are telling the American people about their messiah, President Obama. I just bet you these callers listen to Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, where all you receive are lies."

- Boonsboro

"When I moved to Maryland, here to Hagerstown, I was told I had a certain number of days to get my Maryland tags, which I did. ... There are three people on my street, one has North Carolina plates, one has Georgia plates, one has Virginia plates. They've been living in these places for over a year, way over a year, and they haven't been required to get Maryland tags. So it's quite evident they're not contributing to the tax base and they're breaking the law. Now, the city knows this but they've failed to act on it. I wonder who I go to next."

- Hagerstown

"Driving into my neighborhood the other evening, some young children were using their laser lights to beam them right into my face while I was driving my car. The adult next to them did nothing to stop it. This is very dangerous. I am very appalled that a parent would let their children outside with laser lights, shining them on passing cars."

- Hagerstown

"I have worked 30 years ... and four months ago lost my job. I was denied benefits, appealed and still denied. Now I'm facing foreclosure on my home. Where do I go from here? I'm working two part-time jobs, but not enough to survive. I know a married couple, both getting disability, one 39 ... They are able to ride Jet Skis, shoot pool weekly, run lawn mowers and snow blowers, but can't work - just sit back and collect taxpayer and government money. Is this the American dream?"

- Hagerstown

"As a citizen of Williamsport, I'd like to thank the town management and whoever's running the town and ... volunteers, so forth. It seems like there's something going on here every weekend. If it's not a bicycle race, it's a bike rally. It's just something every week, and I wanted to thank the town for doing so much for its citizens."

- Williamsport
