National Night Out Events in the Tri-State area

The National Night Out is a community event designed to strengthen community spirit, and police and community partnership, and to help people learn how to prevent crime.

Several areas in the Tri-State area are holding National Night Out events Tuesday, Aug. 3.

o Hagerstown: 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairground Park, 351 N. Cleveland Ave. Activities include a safety area for children and an adult health screening area. There will be information tables, police demonstrations, a dunk tank, a Moon Bounce, face painting and other entertainment. Free food will be provided while supplies last.

o Smithsburg: 5 to 10 p.m. at Veterans Park, West Water Street. Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and cake will be served. Smithsburg Police equipment display, a Washington County Special Response Team display and K-9 demonstration.

o Chambersburg, Pa.: 4 to 8 p.m. Meadow Creek Manor, 436 W. Washington St. Music, food, petting zoo and information on crime and drug prevention.

o Greencastle, Pa.: 5 to 8 p.m., Center Square and part of South Carlise Street. Medication take-back, scavenger-hunt drawing, dunking booth and "jail and bail."

o Waynesboro, Pa.: 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial Park, Memorial Park Drive. Free hot dogs and ice cream, child identification kits and bicycle safety.
