South High milestone

South Hagerstown High School will celebrate its 55th birthday in 2011.

A meeting of the SHHS Alumni Association will be Thursday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. in the SHHS Media Center.

All classes are requested to send a representative to discuss the milestone celebration.

Hagerstown Lions Club

Tuesday - John Frye, from the Western Maryland Room of Washington County Free Library, will be the guest speaker.

Hagerstown Lioness Club

The Hagerstown Lioness Club will hold its regular meeting Thursday, Aug. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church. A social will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting is the club's annual indoor family picnic. The theme is "Mardi Gras" and members are urged to dress up for the celebration with a mask, hat or beads. Donations of canned foods or clothing will be given to local food banks.


Yard sale planned

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, at 1020 Maryland Ave., will hold a yard sale Saturday, Aug. 7, from 7 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will go to the church.

The church is across from South End Shopping Center.

Locust Point

Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Congregation B'Nai Abraham, 53 E. Baltimore St.

Class of 1970

The South Hagerstown High School class of 1970 is planning its 40th reunion for Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Elks Lodge.

Cotillion ball

Tickets are on sale for the Blossom School of Etiquette's Cotillion Ball set for Saturday, Aug. 21, at Fountain Head Country Club.

Tickets cost $20, which includes dinner and performances by girls from the school.
