Nadine F. (Burgunder) Mixter, 88, of Cathedral Avenue in Hagerstown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the home of her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Mixter, in 1973.

Born March 1, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lulu (Robbins) Burgunder.

Nadine graduated from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre.

She had been employed as a clerk by the Washington County Tax Assessment Office until 2002. Before that, she worked as a parent involvement aide for the Washington County Board of Education at Winter Street Elementary School, and earlier as a reading aide at St. Mary's Catholic School. While living in Baltimore, she worked for Bendix Freeze and for the Department of the Navy. Following retirement, she volunteered at the John R. Marsh Cancer Center at Robinwood Medical Center.


She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline B. Fischer and husband, George, of Clear Spring, Md.; two sons, Mark T. Mixter, Esq. and wife, Jo Ann, of Owings Mills, Md., and Wesley S. Mixter and wife, Cheryl, of Hagerstown; one grandson, Dennis Fischer of Hagerstown; and three granddaughters, Jordan Mixter, Whitney Mixter of Washington, D.C., and Meghan Mixter of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 25, 2010, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Inurnment will be private.
