Wilson Blvd. to be closed the week of Aug. 9 for rail work

July 23, 2010

The City of Hagerstown provided the following information in an e-mailed release:

CSX Transportation Inc. plans to remove and replace the existing railroad crossing on East Wilson Boulevard near South Potomac Street adjacent to the CVS Pharmacy.

This work will involve removing all of the existing roadbed and cross-ties, and replacing them with new cross-ties and new concrete roadbed panels.

This work will require the complete closure of Wilson Boulevard -- both eastbound and westbound lanes -- at the railroad crossing for approximately fiv days.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 9, at 7 a.m., Wilson Boulevard will be closed to all through traffic at the railroad crossing.

Traffic approaching the crossing will be forced to detour around the work area by using other city streets; a detour route will be posted to direct vehicles accordingly.

Local traffic will be able to access properties on Wilson Boulevard on either side of the railroad crossing.

Motorists approaching the work area will encounter traffic control signs, cones, barricades, and detour signs. CSX plans to complete the work and reopen Wilson Boulevard to traffic by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug.13.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the railroad crossing while this work is being performed.

Anyone with questions may contact the city's Department of Parks and Engineering Works at 301-739-8577, ext. 125.
