Religion: Speakers and topics

St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ann Boyd, will preach at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. communion services this Sunday on the topic, Learning to Pray. The summer choir will sing at the second service. The adult forum is at 9 a.m. Youth Sunday school resumes in the fall.

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pastor Quentin Fleming will preside and preach at the 8:15 a.m. communion service and 10:30 a.m. alternative worship. The topic is Expectations of Greatness. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, the Rev. Glenn Capacchione will be leading the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service on the topic, The Power of Jesus. A welcome luncheon for the new pastor and his wife will follow the service.

First Christian Church, the Rev. Timothy Murtaugh will bring the message, Outrageous Generosity, at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services this Sunday. Sunday school for all ages at 10:15 a.m.

First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, Pastor Thom Smith will speak on Great Faith at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

Christ Reformed UCC, Cavetown, David Plume will preach this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be How to Pray. Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, Pastor Rachel Black's message at the 10 a.m. service Sunday will be, The Friend at Midnight. Jessica Minnick will be worship leader. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church, Chambersburg, Pa., Sunday the Rev. Patrick Pierce will be preacher/celebrant at 8 and 10 a.m. communion services. Craig Jurgenson will play an oboe solo accompanied by organist, Charles Farris. Weekly services of healing and communtion are at noon Wednesdays in the parish hall.

Valley Assembly of God, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, Sunday, the topic at the 10 a.m. service is The Church Family. Bible study for all ages at 9 a.m. Evening worship at 6 p.m. on the topic, Evidences of the Holy Spirit. Wednesday activities at 7 p.m.

Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Al Clipp will bring the meditation, Our Energy Source, at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. An hispanic service is at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., Pastor Ray Barger will be speaking at 10:40 a.m. Sunday on Stand Firm in the Springs of Life series. Christian education for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday gathering with Bible study, prayer, and teen club at 7 p.m.

A Cry in the Wilderness Ministries, 15221 Wyndham Ave. at Tracey's Corner in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Sunday morning worship at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Steve Burdette's sermon, What is in a Name.

Peter's Lutheran Church, Keedysville, offers Sunday school for youth and adults at 9:30 a.m. and a service at 10:45 a.m. with Pastor Dave Kaplan speaking on the topic, Persistent in Prayer.

Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Halfway, the Rev. Timothy Leighton will lead the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday.The topic will be A Community and A People Shaped by Prayer. Adult Bible study is at 10:45 a.m.

Tri-State Fellowship, Peter Frey will lead the 9:30 a.m. classic service and the 11 a.m. bridge service this Sunday on the topic, Do You See This Woman?, in the Great Bible Questions series. Children's and student programs are offered. The congregation will attend Faith Day at the Suns game at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Church of Christ in the Great Valley, 7306 Wheeler Road, Boonsboro, Paul Toothman will speak Sunday at 10 a.m. on You Say: I Can't Do It. God Says: You Can Do All Things Through Christ.

Trinity Reformed UCC, 33 Potomac St., Boonsboro, the Louie Thomas will be speaking this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on the topic, Shaped by Prayer.

New Beginning Community Church, corner of Dual Highway and Beaver Creek Road, Pastor Mark Snyder will share a message at 11 a.m. Sunday on Now Boarding Flight 777 - The Landing. Music by Chrissy Butler. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Snyder will continue a study in the book of Titus Wednesday at 7 p.m.
