CSX to remove and replace crossing on East Wilson Boulevard

July 23, 2010

CSX Transportation Inc. plans to remove and replace the existing railroad crossing on East Wilson Boulevard near South Potomac Street adjacent to CVS Pharmacy, according to a City of Hagerstown press release.

The work will involve removing all of the existing roadbed and cross-ties and replacing them with new cross-ties and new concrete roadbed panels.

The work will require the closure of Wilson Boulevard -- both eastbound and westbound lanes -- at the railroad crossing for about five days.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 9, at 7 a.m., Wilson Boulevard will be closed to all through traffic at the railroad crossing.

Traffic approaching the crossing will be forced to detour around the work area by using other city streets. A detour route will be posted to direct vehicles accordingly.

Local traffic will be able to access properties on Wilson Boulevard on either side of the railroad crossing.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the railroad crossing while the work is being performed.

CSX plans to complete the work and reopen Wilson Boulevard to traffic by Friday, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m.
