Teacher played big role in Doub's ballet career
To the editor:
I greatly appreciate the story that was printed recently about my daughter, Rachel Doub, and her rise to become a professional ballerina. There was one very important piece of information that was omitted from the story.
She was trained by Carolou Brown Fiery Russell at the Hagerstown School of Ballet and the Antietam Ballet Theatre for her first 11 years. Mrs. Russell is a true gem of Hagerstown. She is a very caring and hardworking teacher and, I believe, very influential in getting Rachel to where she is today.
Mrs. Russell has had many years of experience as a ballet dancer, teacher and choreographer. Many of her former students have been or are now dancing professionally with dance companies of both national and international repute. A few are the New York City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Houston Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Ballet West and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Others have danced with The American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet and San Diego Opera Company. Her choreography has been performed on both public and educational television.
