The TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 had total losses of 30 pounds for the week.

The best TOPS losers were Kathy Freese and Sharon Twigg. The best KOPS (Keep off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Janice Frye and Louise Kline. Freese won the "Get-R-Done" cash prize and Eileen Renwick won the Ha! Ha! prize. The no-no snack for the week is doughnuts.

Monthly awards day included 78 members weighing in and 31 had perfect attendance. Honored KOPS were Kline and Joan Budny. Honored TOPS members were Donna Blackowitz, Joan Gilbert, Valarie Eccard, Carol LeClaire and Kathy Renner. Renner is halfway to her goal.

Charms were awarded for birthdays, vacations and perfect attendance with no gains.

Patsy Price and Judy Purdham were voted shining stars for June. Blackowitz and Price presented the program titled "Keep Your Diet on Track/Diet De-railers." They said de-railers include boredom, comfort in progress achieved, vacations, parties and stress. They said the ways to get back on track include keeing a food journal, trying different foods and increased exercise.

The picnic committee will be meeting to plan the menu for the annual summer picnic on Monday, Sept. 13.

Longmeadow Lions Club



The Longmeadow Lions Club will hold its annual picnic Thursday, July 22, at the Timmons residence beginning at 6 p.m. The club will furnish the steaks (prepared by Lion Rodney) and drinks. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and lawn chairs.

The club still collects eyeglasses (no lenses please) and cases, plus hearing aids at its numerous collection boxes around the area. The items are recycled and distributed to needy individuals in the area.

North High class of 1968



The North Hagerstown High School class of 1968 will hold its birthday party for all class members at the Northern Avenue American Legion Post on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Tickets cost $15. Reservations are due Aug. 7.

Invitations have been sent to class members, but if you are a class member, or know a class member who didn't receive one, call Bob Hornbecker at 301-223-1364.

The chapter leader and several others attended the TOPS International recognition days in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Jennifer and Judy H. tied as the week's thinner winners. Cynthia led the meeting and made awards day presentations. The chapter's net loss for June was 41 pounds with Jackie, June's thinner winner, leading the way followed by Mary, Joyce C., Cynthia and Eva.

Mary and Jackie each lost at least 10 pounds in June. Carroll received the shining star award, and Ruth earned the friendship award. KOPS Betty Jo and JoAnn Pi. had no gains for the month and recorded losses for six consecutive weeks. Linda K. was honored as the chapter's newest KOPS member.

Perfect attendance awards went to Elise and Judy H. New officer awards went to Frankie (secretary) and Marie (assistant weight recorder).

Yvonne was recognized for her program presentation and 13 members recorded no gains at the weigh-in after the Fourth of July holiday.

Following the awards presentation, Marie continued her program titled "Naturally Thin." She gave 10 steps to losing weight without stringent dieting.

Meetings are Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with weigh-in at 8:45 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown. For more information, call Mary or Tom at 301-797-2547, or Judy at 301-739-9279.
