Marshall Theodore "Tom" Myers, 83, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at his daughter's home.

Born May 10, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Morris and Ida (Barnhart) Myers.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division.

He retired from both the Board of Education as a bus driver and the Western Maryland Railroad. Tom also worked as an electrician, taxidermist and held a barber's license.

He was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church, Williamsport American Legion Post No. 202, Williamsport Red Men Tribe No. 84, and the Stoney Cabin Rod and Gun Club. Tom played high school baseball and, after the Army, traveled with a semi-pro baseball league. He coached a prep league that went to the World Series. Tom helped start the Williamsport Senior Division Baseball Team. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and New York Yankees fan.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lorraine (Burger) Myers.

Marshall is survived by a daughter, Shar Mitchell and husband William; a grandson, Joshua Mitchell; and a sister, JoAnn Davis, all of Hagerstown; and a brother, Ronald Myers of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents and spouse, Tom was preceded in death by a son, Mickey Myers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Robert Marten officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

Friends will be received Monday one hour before the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
