Religion: Speakers and topics

St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ann Boyd, will preach at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. communion services on the topic, Active Contemplation. The summer choir will sing at the second service. The adult forum is at 9 a.m. Vacation Bible school begins Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for all ages. Youth Sunday school resumes in the fall.

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pastor Quentin Fleming will preside and preach at the 8:15 a.m. service and 10:30 a.m. communion service. The topic is Al Work and No Pray. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

First Christian Church, the Rev. Timothy Murtaugh will share the message, Sit and Listen, at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services. Sunday school for all ages at 10:15 a.m.

First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, Pastor Thom Smith will speak on Traditions of Men or Doctrine of God at the 11 a.m. service. A service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday.


Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, the Rev. Carol Hallman will preach at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be Worried and Distracted. Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, DeAnna Doyle's message at the 10 a.m. service will be, The Good News of God's Kingdom. Pat Monninger will be worship leader. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m.

Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Al Clipp will meditate on Growing and Showing the Love of Christ at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. An hispanic service is at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., Pastor Ray Barger will speak at 10:40 a.m. Sunday. Christian education for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday gathering with Bible study, prayer and teen club at 7 p.m.

A Cry in the Wilderness Ministries, 15221 Wyndham Ave. at Tracey's Corner in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Sunday morning worship at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Steve Burdette's sermon, This is My Beloved Son. There will be a baptism at 3 p.m.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring, Pastor Allen Reed will speak on the topic, Serve or Listen? at the 8:15 a.m. service, which includes a children's sermon. Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m.

Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 14615 Fairview Church Road, Clear Spring, Pastor Allen Reed will speak Sunday on the topic, Serve or Listen? at the 10:30 a.m. service. There will be a children's sermon.

Zion United Church of Christ, Jeff Downin will speak at the 10 a.m. service on the topic, How Lovely is Our Dwelling Place. Sunday school will resume in the fall. The church's facilities, windows and 240-year history will be celebrated.

Welty Church of the Brethren, Greensburg, The Skyline Boys will sing at 10:45 a.m. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Halfway, Hands of Harmony will lead the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday. Hands of Harmony is a choir that interprets music through sign language. Adult Bible study is at 10:45 a.m.

Tri-State Fellowship, Lead Pastor Randy Buchman will lead the 9:30 a.m. classic service and Associate Pastor Chris Wiles will lead the 11 a.m. bridge service Sunday on the topic, If a Man Dies, Will He Live Again? in the Great Bible Questions series. Children's and student programs are offered. High school youth group meets at 6 p.m.

Church of Christ in the Great Valley, 7306 Wheeler Road, Boonsboro, Paul Toothman will speak Sunday at 10 a.m. on God Says: I will Direct Your Steps.

Trinity Reformed UCC, 33 Potomac St., Boonsboro, the Rev. Don Stevenson will speak Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on the topic, Doing What Seems Best.

New Beginning Community Church, corner of Dual Highway and Beaver Creek Road, Pastor Mark Snyder will share a message at 11 a.m. on Now Boarding Flight 777, Part II. Music by LeAnne Snyder. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Pastor Mark Snyder will continue a study in the book of Titus Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown, Pastor Kenneth J. Fizer Jr. will speak on the topic, Are You Anxious, at the 9:15 a.m. service. Sunday school at 10:40 a.m.

St. Peter's (Beard's) Lutheran Church, Old Forge Road, the Rev. David C. Baker will be speak at the 9:15 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, A Tale of Two Sisters.

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Pastor Randy Reid will speak at the 9:30 a.m. worship on the topic, Best of the Best. Sunday school at 10:45 a.m.

Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service, Ken Gibble will speak on Learning to Listen. Summer Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m.

Emmanuel Baptist Temple, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, Pastor Larry Aikens will speak at 11 a.m. on the topic, Drawing Near God. Bob Crichton will speak at 6 p.m. Sunday and the Crown College Men's Quartet will sing. Bible study, prayer meeting, teen group and Patch Clubs meet Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
