Girl asks friends for items for animals instead of gifts for her
When asked about her upcoming birthday, Makyah Baker said she wanted to do something for the animals at the Humane Society of Washington County.
On June 1, accompanied by her grandmother, Trudy Smith, and her best friend, Shelby Delosier, she took in items for the animals to the shelter.
When asked about the motivation for her generosity, Makyah said, "Well, I just love animals. I always have."
Her best friend, Shelby, agreed. "It's all she talks about is dogs," Shelby said.
With two dogs and two fish at home, Makyah wanted to help animals that were not as fortunate.
"I hope they like what we brought," she said.
Makyah's love of animals is common knowledge to her family and friends. More than 50 guests attended her birthday celebration and brought animal-related items and monetary donations for the shelter.
"Makyah is so devoted to her pets," her grandmother said. "I think this is just a wonderful thing for her to do for the animals here at the shelter."
