Mail Call

July 13, 2010

"If you're innocent until proven guilty, why then would the court still view you as guilty after you've been proven innocent? My daughter was found not guilty of child abuse charges and still wasn't granted custody of her children by the West Virginia Berkeley County Family Court. In March 2008, West Virginia State legislators passed House Bill 3065, a bill that slapped a criminal charge on those who falsely report child abuse in order to influence a custody case. Let's begin using it."

"I see where the Obama administration - they went through with suing Arizona on the immigration law. The only thing I can say about that is he should be impeached in the next 30 days. And another thing is if Congress and the Senate agrees with him, they should be ... out of the United States. If the court system agrees with Obama and his administration on this thing, they oughta get rid of the whole crew. If you're illegal you ain't got no business bein' here because they're not payin' taxes."

"I wish it would snow."

"I don't have a real opinion either way about smoking. Want to smoke that's up to you. But my one problem is the adults that have small children in closed cars smoking. I see this all the time. Give the children a chance to make up their own minds don't make them smoking addicts while they're still children. But, I see that and also as you're walking along with your children have them on one side of ya and then on the other side (the cigarette) so the smoke doesn't blow in their face while they're walking along with you."

- Hagerstown

"I find President Obama and the United States government challenging the Arizona immigration law absolutely appalling. If any (others?) would've gotten off their rear ends and handled this situation, Arizona - and I hope many other states - wouldn't have to do this. Every poll taken of the American people show that they overwhelmingly support the Arizona law. What part of this isn't Obama and others getting."

"Yeah, the person who says that the Republicans are against the working man - well, why should you get unemployment benefits for a year and you're gonna find a job if they're paying you to stay home and not look."

- Hagerstown

"Republicans are voting no, no, no. Why? Because we're not only broke we're billions in debt. That's why they voted down the extension for unemployment."

- Hagerstown

"To the cold-hearted person who stole my moped: You should be ashamed of yourself for stealing something that I depended on getting to work with. We have an idea who stole it and are keeping an eye on you. You can change it all you want but it was marked in a way that no one can change or alter. We will know it if we see it. Bring it back and no actions will be taken. If not when we find it we will prosecute."

- Washington County

"Do you know that a lot of good Americans that worked and that are now unemployed are losing all of their benefits and aren't going to get any help from the government but these people that are on welfare, a lot of them who have never worked a day in their lives, aren't losing anything. Me and a lot of my friends don't think this is right."

"I'm a Hagerstown resident and I'm calling about the oil pipe that's leaking in the ocean. I have a son that has 25 years of experience and he said he knows how to stop it and as a father I believe him. So all you have to do is put this in Mail Call and I'll get back with you concerning it."

"I'm a property owner and taxpayer on Falling Waters Road and I was reading in the paper about an individual on Antietam Drive that was talking about the loud noise and speeders mentioning pickup trucks. We pay our taxes and pay their salaries, and it's about time we see some deputies and sheriffs down this way."

"I wish it would snow for two days."

"Last Saturday I purchased a pair of sunglasses and Sunday I lost my sunglasses at ... grocery store. I checked at the front desk and those glasses were not found. Wednesday we went by. ... I went inside and found out that there are good people in Hagerstown. Thank you whomever you may be and God bless for finding those glasses. You encouraged me to be a better Christian."

"I'd like to congratulate the man whose taxes only went up $25. Ours went up $500 and we are both in our 70s. Thanks County Commissioners, I don't know where we're gonna come up with the money to pay this, but we'll try."
