WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - Ruth Atkinson Sherman, 71, of Williamsport, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at her home.

She was born Oct. 10, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to the late James L. and Grace L. Diehl Atkinson.

Ruth was a graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Md.

She was employed with State Farm Insurance Co. in Frederick, Md., until her retirement and most recently was employed as secretary with Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Md., for the last five years.

She attended Emmanuel UMC in Hagerstown.

She belonged to the Senior Citizens Bowling League in Hagerstown. She was involved with the Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley Chapter.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Sherman, whom she married June 13, 2004, of Williamsport; daughter, Sandy Conway and her husband, James, of Glen Burnie, Md.; daughter, Lisa Vay and her husband, Gene, of Glen Burnie; daughter, Kathy Wilson and her husband, Jack, of Bel Air, Md.; stepson, Steve Sherman of Edinburg, Va.; grandchildren, Shannon, Kyle, Brittany, Cody, Ashley, Shane, Ryan, Jamie and Katelyn; and stepgrandchildren, Trevor and Dylan.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at noon at Emmanuel UMC, 802 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown, with the Rev. Randy Reid officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 13, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, which will be open at 2 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Entombment services will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Reid officiating.
