Old Forge Road relocation approved

July 13, 2010

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- The Washington County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the relocation of a portion of Old Forge Road by cement company Holcim Inc.

Holcim wants the road relocated to make way for potential future expansion and to address safety concerns about its equipment crossing the road, county Public Works Director Joseph Kroboth III has said.

The cement company would convey all necessary rights of way for the relocated road to the county and perform all construction, to the county's satisfaction, at no cost to county taxpayers, Kroboth said.

During a public hearing on the proposal Tuesday morning, the county heard from several Cortland Manor and Cortland Village residents who were concerned about a second entrance to their development shown on project maps and the potential that their private street could become public.

County officials said the spur shown on the map is not part of the road relocation project. At the homeowners' request, they included in their motion that a public hearing would have to be held before that road segment could be built.
