Greetings, neighbors

Here's hoping your summer is shaping up to be all you want it to be.

Library news

The folks over at the library continue to bring cool, quality programming to our little town. Register for any of these events by calling 301-432-5723.

This week enjoy the following:

Author to visit

Local author Ronald A. Zeitz will discuss his Civil War era book "Blockade Runner" Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Movie time

On Saturday, catch a wave at Family Movie Time beginning at 11:30 a.m. when the movie "Surf's Up" (2007, Rated PG) will be shown.

It is an animated comedy based on the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins.

A documentary crew takes the audience behind the scenes at the annual Penguin World Surfing Championship and talks to the newest star, Cody Maverick, who will soon discover that a true winner is not always the one who comes in first.

Chicken barbecue

The Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. will hold a chicken barbeque Saturday at the ambulance station on Old National Pike from 9 a.m. until sold out. Chicken will be sold as dinners with baked beans, applesauce and a roll, or as halves only.

Stress reduction workshop

EBT: A scientific solution for stress response and weight control is beginning new summer and fall classes at various locations in Washington County.

Many health problems are caused by or made worse by stress.

Have you ever wondered why it's so difficult to change your habits, especially those lifestyle habits that have affected your health? You can learn why by attending a free orientation at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Eugene Smith Community Center, 37 Park Ave. in Boonsboro.

For information and to register, call the Washington County Health Department at 240-313-3360, TDD/TTY 240-313-3391.

Car show

The First Hose Co. of Boonsboro and Pleasant Valley Ruritan are planning a car show, chicken barbecue and flea market Saturday Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rohrersville Road Station No. 8 on Md. 67 south of Boonsboro.

Cars, trucks, street rods and motorcycles are welcome.

This year, there will be new classes for street rods and a Chiefs Award for customs, and two classes for Corvettes.

A trophy will be awarded in each class, and a dash plaque will be given to the first 150 entries.

The entry fee is $10. All proceeds will benefit the First Hose Co.
