John "Jack" Frederick Kenney, 66

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - John "Jack" Frederick Kenney, 66, of Charles Town, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Winchester Medical Center. Born Jan. 9, 1944, in Providence, R.I., and raised in Uxbridge, Mass., he was the son of the late Leo Kenney and Mary "Cook" Kenney.

Jack received a degree in English from Villanova University, a degree in agriculture from University of California-Fresno and a master's degree in Plant Pathology from University of California-Riverside. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He recently retired after working for 25 years as the science editor for the American Society of Microbiology in Washington, D.C. He loved Elvis Presley, cooking and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Mejia, who spent 38 years by his side; one son, Liam Kenney of Charles Town; one daughter, Laurel Kenney of Columbia, Md.; two grandchildren, Leah and Landon; one sister, Rosalind Venti, and husband George, of Atlanta, Ga.; and one nephew, Mark Venti, and wife Kimberly, and their two children, also of Atlanta, Ga.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ann Murphy and Baha'i Sponsors Bill and Julie Gregg officiating. Interment will be private.
