Funkstown, Williamsport sweep Legion doubleheaders

BRUNSWICK, Md. -- Funkstown Post 211 rapped out 38 hits on the day to sweep a doubleheader from Brunswick on Sunday, 17-12 and 18-13.

Joey Miller had three hits in each game to lead Funkstown (14-12, 11-7 Western Maryland District). Ryan Sword finished with five hits on the day, while Ty Benson, J.J. O'Neill, Aaron Stoner and Tyeler Presgraves each had two hits in both games.

Jeremy Barron had four hits in the second game, while Miller and Stoner both homered.

Williamsport sweeps Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. -- Tyler Walsh homered in both games of the Williamsport Nationals' doubleheader sweep of Frederick Post 11.

Walsh had four hits and four RBIs in the Nationals' 13-10 win in the first game and hit a solo homer in a 5-2 win in the second game.

Sean Colgan had two hits in each game for Williamsport (6-14, 6-12). Zach Sauble had three hits and three RBIs in the first game, while Seth Poffenberger and Tyson Cline each had two hits in the second game.



Spinnler wins Hill Climb

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Mike Spinnler of Hagerstown, representing Antietam Velo Club/Team Hagerstown-Washington County Tourism, won the South Mountain 7.3-mile Mass-Start Hill Climb in a time of 26 minutes, 43 seconds.

Spinnler's time was the fastest on the course in the 2010 season, but is more than 2 minutes slower than the course record of 24:28, set by Hagerstown's Brian Fouche in 2008.

Four of Spinnler's teammates placed in the top 15: Dave Long (7th, 29:19), Jamie Boward (9th, 30:04), Steve Brooks (11th, 31:11) and Jeremy Downie (14th, 31:33).
