Warren Speleos and Connor Gilchrist, students at Smithsburg High School, recently attended a Rotary program called RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) that introduced teens to leadership concepts.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Long Meadows, Speleos and Gilchrist participated in the program at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., from June 13 to 16.

Those chosen to participate in the program heard presentations and participated in such activities as a business venture competition and team-building games with other young people sponsored by other Rotary clubs throughout the area.

Participants received training from successful professionals, with special emphasis on the importance of ethics and community service.

Attendees often become leaders in their schools, communities and career paths.
