The Hagerstown Hotel & Convention Center off Dual Highway was damaged after someone set a vehicle on fire in the parking lot Thursday night, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said.

In addition to causing about $2,000 in damages to the hotel's exterior, the fire destroyed a 2004 Ford Explorer in the parking lot, according to a fire marshal's office press release. Damage to the Explorer was estimated at $15,000.

A passerby reported the fire, which started under the Explorer at about 10 p.m., the fire marshal's office said. On Friday morning, authorities were looking for witnesses.

Eighteen firefighters from the Hagerstown, Halfway and Funkstown fire departments took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control, the fire marshal's office said.
