Souza's two-run homer directs Suns

July 09, 2010

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Steven Souza hit a two-run homer run in the 10th inning to give the Hagerstown Suns a 6-5 victory over the Greenville Drive.

The Suns tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh on Francisco Soriano's sacrifice fly.

Souza's homer made a winner of reliever Rob Wort, who worked three innings of one-hit relief before giving away to Dean Weaver in the 10th. Weaver allowed a run, but closed out the game for his 11th save.

The Suns (6-9, 42-43) greeted Greenville reliever Dennis Neuman rudely in the 10th. Soriano worked Neuman for a walk before trotting home on Souza's drive to center field, his 11th homer of the season.

Greenville took a 3-0 lead against Hagerstown starter Daniel Rosenbaum with a run in the first when Daniel Butler drove in Jeremy Hazelbaker on a double play. The Drive got two more runs in the third on back-to-back triples by Hazelbaker and Derrik Gibson and an RBI single by Ronald Bermudez.
