Friday first day of week temperatures are under 97 degrees

Area residents got a slight break from the heat Friday, when the day's high temperature in Hagerstown was 93.2 degrees, according to http://www.i4weather.net, a website maintained by local weather observer Greg Keefer.

The high temperature occurred at 2:43 p.m., according to the site.

It was the first day this week that the high temperature was lower than 97 degrees, according to Keefer's records.

Friday's heat index reached a high of 97 degrees at 2:38 p.m., according to the site.

The National Weather Service calls for a break from the 90-degree heat today, with a high temperature of 87 degrees. The forecast is for an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms.

The weather service forecast for Sunday and Monday is for a high temperature each day of 91 degrees.
