HAGERSTOWN -- A Hagerstown church plans to host TV and film actor Kirk Cameron at The Maryland Theatre in September.

Cameron is scheduled at the downtown Hagerstown theater at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.

Covenant Life Church, a Church of God congregation on Dual Highway, rented the theater for the event, Pastor Tim Fisher said.

Cameron is expected to talk about his faith and about marriage during a two-hour program, after which he will sign autographs, said Sherri Frey, director of the couple's ministry Couples Loving Christ, the group that coordinated the effort.

Christian musician Vaughn Thompson Jr. will open the show, Frey said.

Cameron is best known for his role as Mike Seaver in the 1980s sitcom "Growing Pains." More recently, he starred in the independent film "Fireproof," in 2008, and currently produces and co-hosts a Christian reality show called "The Way of the Master," which airs on TBN.

Marci Howes, who handles The Maryland Theatre's marketing, said tickets cost $20, but the price did not include fees for tickets purchased online or mailed.

Teri Case, the box office manager who handles the theater's contracts and ticket sales, said Covenant booked the theater in March and that tickets had been for sale for three weeks.
