Goose Route Dance Festival offers family shows

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Goose Route Dance Festival is offering numerous events for children and their families during its 10th anniversary year. There are three free dance classes and two free shows for children.

All events, except for one class noted below, take place at the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German St.

o Saturday, July 17, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. - Visiting dance artist Rebecca M. Sproul will teach "Alphabet Soup: Creating Choreography with Children" for kids between the ages of 5 and 9. No registration required.

o Thursday, July 22, 11 a.m. to noon - Sarah Gladwin Camp of the Philadelphia-based Green Chair Dance Group will teach "Water Stories" at the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library, corner of King and Queen streets, Martinsburg, W.Va. This class focuses on making up stories and dance with a water theme. Contact the library's children's department at 304-267-8933.

o Saturday, July 24, 9:30 to 10:15. a.m. - Taught by members of the Green Chair Dance Group, "Zoom Dance Action Adventure Story-Telling" is geared for young children ages 3 to 5. No registration required.


The two family shows will be performed at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, and Friday, July 23, These free performances are open dress rehearsals of the shows that will be performed during each weekend.

Children will be introduced to the dancers and learn about what happens behind the scenes during a performance.

Fidgeting is allowed during these shows, so bring children of all ages. Adults must be accompanied by a child.
