Mail Call

July 08, 2010

"To the people in the right lane on 81: Please, please, if you see us coming down off of the ramp, move over to the left lane if you can. I'm so tired of dealing with inconsiderate people who won't move it over, and I don't particularly want to get rear-ended because of your inconsideration."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"I'm calling concerning the two trucks that speed up and down Antietam Drive, not to mention the loud noise they make. They rip and tear up and down the road at a very high rate of speed. There are children that ride and play here on Antietam Drive. The way they speed, if one of the kids got in the way they'd never get stopped in time - not to mention people backing out of their driveways. Again, they just would never get stopped. There isn't just one person tired of it. There are several people that live on Antietam Drive that's had enough of the noise and the speeding. People are tired of the noise and the speeding that happens every weekend."

"I used to watch Glenn Beck when he was on Headline News, and he really had a good show. And then I couldn't figure out why Headline News fired him, and then I saw his show the other day. I see why they fired him. He's completely nuts. Anybody that takes seriously Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh at their word is about three bricks shy of a load."

- Hagerstown

"Another red light the city could consider to remove is at the corner of Mulberry, Cannon and East North Street, right by the corner of the fairgrounds. They could remove that light and put a stoplight at Mulberry. Save the taxpayers some money."

- Hagerstown

"A17, ''A Whale' gets to gobble up some oil' - if the Coast Guard and BP reach an agreement. It's anchored in Mississippi now. That was a good story, but you buried it on A17. Here we go, thank God for the Asian countries, they're coming to our rescue again, but get off the stick and let them clean that oil up, America. I mean, quit playing the politics. Good article."

- Leitersburg

"I'd like to respond to the people who are complaining about Obama. I think the ones that should carry the burden for Obama being in office is the news media. They've pushed it and pushed it and pushed it and pushed it, because that's what they wanted. They didn't want a woman in there, they wanted Obama in there. And now that he's in there, why don't the news media take responsibility and get everything straightened out?"

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"President Obama was trying anything to help the economy when he gave money for Cash for Clunkers. That gave money to rich that could afford payments for a car. Cash for appliances is wrong, too. The poor unemployed need the help, not people that have money. Encourage manufacturing here, to make clothes, etc., we will buy, and therefore people will have jobs in the private sector. They need tax revenue to pay them their salaries."

- Williamsport

"The construction on Salem Avenue is going very, very well. In over 4 1/2 months now, they've reached about 70 yards, and they're gonna be done in December 2010. Yeah, right. Maybe December 2014."

- Hagerstown

"For the caller from Rohrersville: Remember when Bush sent the troops to Iraq without body armor? A father and mother of one soldier took up a collection in church to buy their son body armor. That's a disgrace. And then Bush and the whole family went to Disney World."

- Clear Spring

"I know one thing, they're gonna be a lot of happy children this morning when they see the school page in the July 5 Morning Herald. I was reading the paper this morning, and The Herald-Mail been doing a fantastic job here lately, putting these pictures of everything in there, sports and whatever. But these little schoolchildren, their happy faces for getting awards for the schools, they're gonna be very happy. That's one thing I like about the paper, reading the little articles on these schoolchildren."

- Hagerstown

"July 4 is a federal holiday. Usually Mondays are the day observed for government office to be closed. I saw in the paper where the landfill was going to be closed today, yet the trash was picked up by the city on schedule. How are we supposed to know when to observe the holiday schedule to set out trash, and when you're going to do it on a regular schedule?"

- Hagerstown

"Why don't these people quit blaming Obama? Some of them blame him for doing something wrong. Some of them blame him for doing something good. They blame the Republicans for doing this, they blame the Democrats for doing that. Don't these people realize that people watch the news on TV? They know what they're doing, good or bad ... I mean, it's every day, that's all's in Mail Call, Obama and Congress and the senators. People get fed up with that."

- Washington County
