Paving project for Boonsboro Police Department to be advertised

July 07, 2010

BOONSBORO -- The Boonsboro Town Council voted Tuesday to advertise for bids for paving a road into the Boonsboro Police Department.

Boonsboro received a $37,816 allocation of federal stimulus money through Washington County for the project, Town Manager Debra Smith said.

The project will involve paving a new access road to the police department, and possibly paving two parking areas and overlaying the existing access road with asphalt, she said.

Smith recommended that the council seek bids for the main access road and leave the remaining elements as alternates.

Concerned that bidding everything as alternates could increase the price, Councilman Kevin Chambers moved that the council bid the full project with four alternates, one for each piece of the project, he said.

"I think that the four parts separately, added up, will be more than if bid as one," he said.

Chambers' motion passed unanimously.

Councilwoman Janeen Solberg was absent.
