Retreat through Williamsport: Civil War Weekend



This weekend, follow the events of the Confederate and Union armies as they retreated in and around Williamsport after the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1863.

Come to Springfield Farm Barn on Friday, beginning at 7 p.m., for music, the showing of "Ten Days and Still They Come: The Battle of Monterey Pass" and night firing demonstration.

Saturday activities begin at 9 a.m. at River Bottom Park, Cushwa Basin and Springfield Farm Barn, continuing throughout the day with firing demonstrations, skirmishes, encampments, tours and much more. At dusk, join the storytelling around a bonfire at River Bottom Park.

On Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m., march from Cushwa Basin to Falling Waters on the C&O Canal towpath, following the retreat of the Confederate Army as they crossed the Potomac. Return transportation will be provided after this 5-mile walk through history.

Wrestling club plans summer bonanza



The Williamsport Wrestling Club will hold a Summer Bonanza at the Potomac Fish and Game Club Pavilion on Friday, July 23. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30. The drawing will be from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by DJ and dance from 9 to 11:30 p.m.

The menu consists of 1/4 barbecue chicken, red potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw and rolls. Six drinks are included per ticket (cash bar available also). Cost is $35 per couple. Tip jars, music and dancing will be available. Proceeds will go toward getting new singlets for the Wildcat wrestlers for the wrestling season.

Angel Food ordering set for July



Angel Food orders will be taken Thursday, July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 17, from noon to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St.

Payment must be made at the time of ordering by cash, money order or food stamps. You can order and pay online with debit or credit card. There are no income restrictions, applications, qualifications or minimums.
